Canon Driver Preferences: Color Matching

In the Color Management dialog of the Canon Printer Driver there are two distinct options depending on your workflow. The ColorSync button should be checked

Option 1, Automatic: The automatic option will use whatever profile is associated with the paper type you chosen in your printer settings. This option is the best if you are using Canon paper and are not creating custom profiles. In the example right, Canon IPF 6100/6200 Glossy Photo Paper was chosen in the “Main dialog” so the profile “Canon IPF 6100/6200 Glossy Photo Paper was automatically chosen by colorsync as the profile associated with Glossy Photo Paper.

If you are using custom profiles or third party media then go to Option 2

Option 2, Custom: The custom option should be used if you are utilizing a custom made profile or are using a third party paper with its own custom profile. By clicking on the profile dialog you will bring up a list of all profiles associated with the paper you have selected in the “Printer Settings” If you do not see the profile you wish to use scroll down to “Other” it will bring up your entire colorsync profile library. If you are using a custom profile make sure that you have loaded it into the ColorSync library.

Media Type: The media type setting controls the internal Color look up table (Which will contain lineariation, ink limit and total ink limit) that the driver will use in conjunction with an ICC profile. If you are using a custom profile pick a Canon media that is as close as possible to the media you are using. Most third party medias will specify what media type setting was used when creating a custom profile.

Advanced Settings: These settings can be set to whatever a users individual preferences are. They will not effect color.

Canon Driver Preferences: Page Setup

Paper Source: The Paper Source setting should be set to Roll or Sheet according to a users needs.

“Save Roll Paper” setting will optimize page length based on the total area of an image layout rather than the page size. If, for example, a page size on 24 inches by 100 inches is selected in ImageNest and a 24 inch by 10 inch image is printed, the 100 inch page length will automatically be re-sized to 10 inches in length. This enables users to use the same page size for a variety of different jobs without wasting paper.
