The entire computing industry is moving from 32-bit to 64-bit technology, and it’s easy to see why. Today, Mac computers can hold up to 32GB of physical memory but the 32-bit applications that run on them can only address 4GB of RAM at a time. 64-bit computing offers huge improvements by enabling applications to address a theoretical 16 billion gigabytes of memory (thats 16 exabytes !).
ImageNest operates in full 64 bit mode on OSX 10.6 allowing for faster processing and expanded memory. Currently ImageNest is the ONLY 64 bit compatible RIP available for Macintosh users. Going from a 32 bit to a 64 bit architecture is a major leap forward and ImageNest has been completely written in Objective C in order to be able to take full advantage of the 64 bit capability or OSX 10.6 Although other Mac based rips run in 32 bit mode on 64 bit systems (an Apple technology named “rosetta” allows them to do this) ImageNest is the only one that can take full advantage of the 64 bit architecture in 10.6. |
